Welcome Insiders, you have stayed with me for some time now and I am so grateful to you ❤️ This blog is exclusively for you. Below I share with you why I’ve changed the name, what to expect from Season 3 when it launches on Saturday 6th September, my 3 biggest lessons since starting my podcast and where I am in my journey.

First off, why is it no longer called The Wild Show?

If you’ve been with me from the very beginning, you’ll know that it used to be called The Lilly Wild Show.

When I was really sick with severe Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Lilly Wild was my adventurous alter ego, she had no limits. Whereas I was limited by the severe lack of energy and confined to either my house or bed most days.

The Lilly Wild Show was an obvious name for my podcast when I started, as it symbolised that I was now living my life to the fullest, breaking the limits my body and mind once placed on and turning the impossible to the possible.

I decided to change the name for Season 2 to just The Wild Show. This is because I felt I had now fully shedded my alter ego. I was strong and living the life I wanted to live. I also kept being called Lilly Wild, which isn’t helpful when building a personal brand!

I kept Wild in my podcast’s name, not because of the connotations with adventure, nor because I was living a wild life. But because I wanted to recognise Frank Wild: The unforgotten polar explorer, who has spent more time in the polar regions than Scott and Shackleton.

All those years ago, Wild inspired and motivated me to fully recover when I was sick, but more than that, his mindset was resilient, strong and enabled him to weather many a storm. Shackleton described Wild being icy calm as they stepped off the boat having survived the perilous journey to Elephant Island in the Antarctic. The majority of their comrades were mad and delirious, but Shackleton said Wild looked as if he could be walking through Green Park.

[Listen to Frank Wild’s incredible story as told to us by his autobiographer Angie Butler in Season 1 Episode 9]

Since launching my podcast at the end of 2016, I have llearneda lot about my self, grown as an individual and developed my expertise in performance coaching and branding.

With the help of renowned brand experts and content strategists Phil Pallen and Lauren Moore, I have attained a deep level of clarity on where I want to take my brand and how I can finesse it to become an effective brand that amplifies my accomplishments.

For these reasons, you will have noticed a change in my brand colours from the bold red to more earthy and grounded colours and a final change in my podcast’s name. It is now called The Adelaide Podcast.

I have chosen this name because, apart from being available on iTunes and the URL was a very good price, it reflects my podcast: A place where I interview exceptional people across an eclectic background, who I have met or would like to meet on my journey, and together we break down their approaches to success. We often focus on mindset, as that’s where my passion lies, but we might also look at habits, practices, strategies and much more. It reflects my curiosities.

You will be able to see this by looking back and listening to my interviews from the very beginning. Season 1 was all about how to live an adventurous life, Season 2 was a mixture of adventure, triathletes and entrepreneurs. And Season 3 is a mixture of CEOs from companies I love, including Jaybird Sport and Norrøna, my Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon journey of being part of the media team and extraordinary triathletes, along with other championship athletes, authors, coaches and sport psychologists. As always, I’ve tried to keep the gender balance at en even 50:50 split.

Season 3 has been really exciting to produce and I’ve even surprised myself by who I’ve managed to have on my podast. It’s a been a phenomenal journey, one I can’t wait to share with you.

What are my top 3 lessons from one and a half years of podcasting?

Lesson No.1 : Sound Quality

Oh my gosh have I had an issue with sound!

I’ve had to ditch several interviews due to sound in the background disrupting the audio, my Zoom H1 batteries bizarrely dying (it survived on one in Svalbard, but apparently New York was too much) and had to result to my phone, whose audio turned out to be very poor. I now carry A LOT of spare batteries. My MacBook Air no longer being powerful enough and other technicalities that caused my voice to sound like a chipmunk.

My editor and podcast extraordinaire, Rob Lawrence has said that he hasn’t known anyone to experience as many audio and podcast challenges! It’s not a trophy I am particularly proud of, but it has meant that I’m well prepared for the future!

Luckily, from my audio difficulties in New York, I knew the sound quality of my phone was not good when I landed a media position in the Iskar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon in Norway. I wanted to produce Instagram Stories, blogs and a podcast episode of a really high sound quality, so I invested in the Rode VideoMicro Compact on Camera Microphone that plugged directly into my Samsung Galaxy S8. The results. Amazing. I can’t wait to share this episode with you, but for now, you’ll have to wait!

Lesson No.2: Be Present and Listen

I remember my very first podcast interview with Sarah Williams like it was yesterday. I felt very prepared, having researched a ton about Sarah and compiled a list of very good questions laid out in the perfect order.

[Listen to Season 1 Episode 1 with Sarah Williams on How To Take The First Step To Living Your Dreams]

All of my episodes for Season 1 were conducted in this manner and it produced really good interviews. Sarah’s is one of my most downloaded episodes to date. However, I wanted to produce really great episodes.

I turned to Rob Lawrence, who advised me to trust in the process, be present in the conversation and really listen to my guests. Rob told me to ditch my list of questions and just know the outcome I desired for each of my interviews.

I still conducted my research for each guest, often had some questions written out and was more present in my interviews. Although in my head I was often still panicking as the interviewee came to the end of their answer about how I was going to link their answer to my next question and what would my next question be??

It was just so scary to ditch the questions and trust the process!

Season 2 was all about improving and finessing my interview technique and I believe as a result, my interviews are of a much higher quality. Squash Falconer even said it was one of the best interviews she’s ever had! This made me very happy.

[Listen to Season 2 Episode 4 Squash Falconer on Daring To Achieve The Impossible]

Now Season 3 has come around and I am a much more confident interviewer. I still like to do as much research as I can about my guest, but I just have themes written out on a notepad that I want to cover. This has meant we have segwayed into other areas that were fascinating and it’s a much more natural conversation.

My aim with each interview is for you to feel like you’re having coffee with us at your favourite cafe while we chat.

Tim Ferriss, Rich Roll and Shawn Stevenson are the podcasters that I look up to and with Season 3 I hope I am edging closer to their incredible interview quality.

Lesson No.3: Think outside the microphone

What I love about my editors Rob Lawrence and Matt Cheney is that I am really able to push the boundaries of podcasting, which I think few people are.

  • I’ve recorded 12 hours worth of sounds as I cross-country skied Svalbard for 9 days that I used to create my second most popular episode. Svalbard: My Icy Wilderness Adventure.
  • I’ve recorded a mini-episode in an igloo in the heart of Switzerland, and again used sounds from snowshoeing across a mountain
  • In Season 3, we’ve ripped the sounds from over 40 Instagram Stories together and vlogs to create the Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon Special Episode
  • We’ve stitched together audio snippets from all of my female guests who are adventurers to create the ultimate women in adventure podcast episode for the She Xtreme Podcast Competition, weaving music into the background to create a fuller experience
  • We’ve mashed up snippets of sounds to create the intro for my podcast that grabs your attention and gets you feeling excited

What’s next? I don’t know but I would like to experiment more with sound to create a deeper experience and really immerse you into the story.[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line”][image_with_animation image_url=”7428″ alignment=”” animation=”None” box_shadow=”none” max_width=”100%”][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_column_text]

What have I learnt since starting my podcast? Now that’s a big question.

I’ve learned a lot and no big lessons suddenly spring to my mind. However, I can distill my overall learnings down into 9 phrases, let me know if you agree with them by sending me a message via my pink bot.

  1. Keep Faith.
  2. Work Hard and Smart.
  3. Persevere.
  4. Ask for help
  5. Strive to continuously create new connections
  6. Be humble
  7. Never stop learning
  8. The universe is always working for you
  9. Never forgot that your health is your number one

[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_column_text]

A question I find far more exciting, is where will I be focusing on going as Season 3 is rolled out over the next few months.

[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line”][image_with_animation image_url=”8077″ alignment=”” animation=”None” box_shadow=”none” max_width=”100%”][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_column_text]

Having recently attended a brand coaching program with Phil Pallen and Lauren Morre, I’m really excited to implement everything that they advised and taught us, from growth hacks to brand positioning and much more.

Over the coming months you’ll see my brand evolve as I implement these things. If you’re interested in what I will be doing, let me know by sending me an email to adelaide@lillywild.com as I could always vlog or blog about it!

One of my dreams is to live in Norway. It’s been bubbling away in the background for a few years, but at the moment I just can’t get it out of my head. Do you know that feeling?

I’ve taken a step towards achieving this dream by becoming a permanent member of the Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon Media Team. Over the next few months, I will be doubly down on my efforts to live in Norway permanently. There’s something about Norway that is just magic to me, and has been since watching the Disney film Balto when I was little. I know it’s not based in Norway, but it’s about an epic dog sled journey and in my young mind, that meant Norway.

I’ve visited Norway 5 times in the last few years and each time, my urge to live there grows stronger. People find it strange when I tell them that the UK has never really felt like home to me. When I first landed in Norway, when I was about 20. It felt like home. My goal is to be living their or being closer to be living there by the end of Season 3.

The more branding and marketing projects I undertake, the more fascinated I become by branding and marketing in the sports and outdoor adventure industry and the more I want to learn and enhance my skills.

Over the coming months, I will be focusing my efforts on attaining more clients within these industries. I love working with small organisations on their brand and marketing, helping them to drive their profit, think outside the box and grow their brand awareness.

However, for the right challenge and right company, I would be enticed to come on board permanently within a business. The thought of having a role in which I can really sink my teeth into, hone my skills, work within a team and contribute to taking a brand to the next level sounds very exciting.

I am thoroughly enjoying growing my performance coaching business. This year I came on as the US Adaptive Climbing Team In-House Mindset Coach for their climbers going to the World Championships this September, who you will be hearing from later in this Season.

Another athlete I’m now coaching is Allan Hovda, one of Norway’s top extreme triathletes. Some of his accomplishments including winning Norseman three times and Swissman once. Allan is an incredible triathlete and I am honoured to be part of his team. You will be hearing from Allan in Season 3 too!

As Season 3 progresses I’m looking to coach more athletes and transfer my learnings with them about performance into the business world. I am also road mapping my journey to becoming a more skilled performance coach, so I can serve my clients with the best coaching possible.

So that’s where I am and where I plan on going. If you would like to find out how we can work together or if you can help me get there in any way, please send me an email to adelaide@lillywild.com .

So that sums up Season 3, why the podcast has changed it’s name, my podcast learnings, journey and where I’m planning on going!

If you have any questions, comments, feedback or would like to discover how to work with me, then don’t hesitate to send me an email to adelaide@lillywild.com and you can follow me on Instagram @adelaidegoodeve and Facebook @adelaidegoodeve.

I look forward to having you on this journey with me and I really hope you enjoy these conversations as much as I enjoyed having them with my guests.

This was the Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon’s 16th year in which 238 of the world’s most daring triathletes representing 35 countries swam 3.8km, cycled 180km, ran 42.2km and ascended more than 5235m in Norway’s exquisite landscape.

To be clear… that’s a swim in cold-is fjord waters, a bike through mountains and a marathon run up another mountain to the finish. Did I mention this starts at 5am by the athletes jumping off a ferry?

An unusually warm day greeted these daring triathletes in Eidfjord, Norway on Saturday 4th August. They all converged on the back of the ferry at 4am in the morning, ready to plunge into the deep black waters below and start their journey to the top of Mount Gaustatoppen, as soon as the horn was sounded.

Three times Norseman winner Allan Hovda and course record holder Lars Christian Vold had a friendly race rivalry and were the men’s favourites to win. The female athletes tipped for podium finishers were training partners Mette Petterson and Heini Hartikainen, a 2017 Ironman world champion podium finisher.

Hovda and Vold made for a very fast and very exciting race, as they were neck and neck until deep into the race, having held around the top 5 throughout the swim and bike section. However, shortly after starting the run, Hovda had really taken the lead and maintained a significant gap of 10 minutes. After 10 hours 5 minutes of racing, Hovda climbed the last steps to the summit of Gaustatoppen, the race’s epic finishing line and was clearly ecstatic to have won for the third time.

I had a great swim, a really good bike and I felt amazing on the run, but after 20km I didn’t feel that amazing anymore, so I had to start working. I wasn’t sure I was going to win until I got quite far up Gaustatoppen and couldn’t see anyone behind me. I was prepared to kill myself to win, that was my motto and my mindset, as I was eager to get back and show that I’m the King of Norseman!””] Click the edit button to add your testimonial. Mette Petterson’s performance was jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring, she proved the course was no match for her and destroyed last years female record by a whopping 48 minutes, with an impressive time of 11:16:10. Mette was the fifth athlete out of the water and the first woman, she continued this fast pace throughout the race and held at least a lead of 6 minutes throughout the entire race.

During the run, Hartikainen closed the gap and was hot on Mette’s heels, she crossed the finish line soon after Mette and both became the first women to achieve a sub-12 hour Norseman race.

After running down Dag Oliver, Managing Director of the Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon a.k.a. the world’s toughest triathlon, at The London Triathlon Show in February, I was given the very enjoyable task of taking over Norseman’s Instagram Stories (@nxtri) over the 4-day race period. Want to know what it takes to compete in the world’s ultimate triathlon and become a Norseman? Then read below and watch the video.

This year the Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon turned 16 and saw 238 of the world’s most daring triathletes, representing 35 countries swim 3.8km, cycle 180km, run 42.2km and ascend more than 5235m in Norway’s exquisite landscape.

To be clear… that’s a swim in cold-is fjord waters, a bike through mountains and a marathon run up another mountain to the finish. Did I mention this starts at 5am by the athletes jumping off a ferry?

Wow! What an amazing day! It’s over. I’m feeling exhausted but also charged and wide awake. As I was putting the press release together on Saturday evening, my brain was in over drive and my body exhausted – and I hadn’t even raced!

This is what my amazing day was like, I didn’t race, but working with Norseman was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had and I’m already looking forward to next year!

3:25am: I was out with the athletes and their support crew. As the athletes racked their bikes and ensured they had everything ready for their first transition, the atmosphere was filled with tension, anxiety, pre-race nerves, joy and anticipation. You could hear the rustling of the athletes’ equipment and the hushed murmurs as athletes and crew members talked to each other. The final preparations were coming to an end.

4am: We were on the ferry. Most of the athletes made a beeline for the inside viewing area to chill out, talk with friends, take on final nutrition and hydration, get suited up and drop their bags off. Others remained on the ferry floor. Some sat with their backs against the floor or perched against the barrels, their faces etched with tension.

4.15am: Supporters cheered as the ferry departed. Eidfjord’s lights grew smaller as the ferry made waves across the black silk-like water. The air and water was unusually warm, so no one opted for the cold water showers.

4:45am: The ferry blew its horn signaling it was time. This was it. The infamous 4m plunge into the fjords usually icy waters. Some athletes backflipped, others held their nose and goggles and went for a pencil jump and a few needed a lot of encouragement to make that jump.

5am: Another horn signalled it was time for the athletes to swim the 3.8km back to shore. They looked like small fish making splashes along the water’s surface. Two elite males, Eirik Ravnan and Harry Wiltshire made a break and held their lead, leaving the pack behind.

5:50am: Ravnan and Wiltshire were out of the water within 48 mins, soon followed by Allan Hovda, Lars Chrsitan Vold and Mette Petterson. The swim set the exciting tone for the race, who was going to be crowned King and Queen of Norseman?

6.20am: Erik Jungeling, Media Director of Norseman, and I quickly drove out of Eidjford, keen to get ahead of the traffic and catch up with the leaders. The sun was out, the temperatures still warm and the excitement building. Who was in the lead? Would they hold their position? And how long for? We passed cyclist after cyclist, each embodying a look of dogged determination and absolute focus.

7am: The support crew, made up of one to two individuals, were only allowed to stop at certain places along the bike route. We caught up with a few of the crew to find out how their athlete was doing and what they would be giving their athlete.

7.30am: We stopped at Dyranut, the entrance to the Hardangvidda Plateau, where there was a much welcomed tailwind for the athletes, something I’m sure that appeared in their dreams, but is unheard of in Norseman. Usually athletes are having to battle a headwind!

While the athletes made friends with the elements, we found some of their support crews taking refuge in the cosy cafe and tucking into breakfast!

8:30am: When you wake up at 2:55am, 8:30am breakfast becomes lunch according to Eirik! We stopped at Geilo, the foot of Kikut, one of the first big climbs from Eidfjord and here we saw the top 20 athletes cycle passed us in a blur.

We also caught up with the Huub support crew for Mette Petterson and Heini Hartikainen:

9am: As we descended Kikut, which is a long smooth descent and where athletes can pick up speed in the aero position, we stayed behind an athlete going at 84km/h!! That’s seriously fast!!!

9:30am:  We finally caught up with the ongoing battle between Allan Hovda and Lars Christian Vold, Allan was in front and Lars just 9 seconds behind him. Lars smashed Norseman’s record last year with an impressive time of 9 hours 52 minutes, but Allan has won Norseman twice and has been training all year to beat Lars.

9:40am: We ascended the infamous Mount Iming, a notorious mountain that Eirik described as a  “super villain in an ’80 Hollywood action movie.” It’s a false flat, so once you’ve climbed the steep hundreds of meters up and you think you’re going to be rewarded with some respite.

You’re wrong.

Mount Iming fools you by looking flat, but you actually have another several kilometers of climbing to go. As we drove along this stretch, I was truly blown away by the landscape it was absolutely stunning.

12pmWe arrived at T2. The gateway to the finish line at Gaustatoppen, where all of our triathletes dream of finishing, but only 160 of the 238 athletes would be able to, due to the time cut-offs.

Here, with the help of their support crew, the athletes quickly changed out of their cycling gear and into their running gear, before running off into the mountains.

Some came off their bikes looking fresh and changed speedily with little care who saw them naked. While others dismounted with stiff legs and pain, looking like the next 42km could be unpleasant.

In true Norseman style, the location was stunning. I couldn’t decide if T1 or T2 was more beautiful, but you guys said T2 and I think I would have to agree.

The sun was out, the crowds lined the transition area, upbeat music was playing and all with a backdrop of the most stunning lake.

We caught up with some of the crowd:

Idda, Theresa and Modum, 3 members of Oslo’s Triathlon Club, had cycled here to cheer for 17 of their team members!

As well as a couple of the triathletes crew members:

12:30pm: The first 25km of the run is pancake flat, however this only lulls you into a false sense of relief, as Gautatoppen suddenly looms into view. It’s there to intimidate the triathletes. To tease them and to taunt them, ‘Do you think you can really run and climb 1400m to my summit?’

As Gaustatoppen grew larger and larger, we passed Hovda who looked phenomenally strong considering how far he had already swam and cycled and his pace! Wow! His pace would be a quick sprint for me during a training session!

12:45pm: Oh My Gosh! Zombie Hill is insane!! It’s seriously steep for a LONG time! My mind cannot comprehend how some of our athletes can wind up that side of the mountain, running on the road, on that steep gradient and in the blaring sun. Just wow!

Allan was looking really strong, but second and third place at this point was totally up for grabs!

2pm: The athletes were running, climbing, walking and crawling up the trail to Gaustatoppen, but the Norseman Live TV team, Helen Webster and Daniel Granberg, Producer at Spocks Family, Erik and I caught 2 funiculars, which were over 70 years old to the summit of Gaustatoppen and wow!

Norseman is known for being unique, known for being tough and known for epic landscapes and it did not fail to deliver. The top of Gaustatoppen was simply outstanding. The view took your breathe away, with mossy green mountains, escarpments slashing through the landscape and sapphire lakes stretched out as far as the eye could see.

We also experienced the infamous weather. Within 1 hour we had hail, torrential rain, sunshine and rainbows! It was extraordinary!!

3.45pm: The excitement and anticipation built over the hour as we kept our eyes peeled for any sight of Hovda coming up Gaustatoppen. It was a little like Where’s Wally? As between the ant sized tourists and epic landscape you couldn’t make out who was a triathlete, spectator or a large rock!!

Then our time keeper amazingly spotted him – I have no idea how, as Hovda’s attire camouflaged him perfectly against the surrounding landscape.

It was now on. The winner was approaching. You could start to hear the cheers and even as I write this now, my hairs raise and my body tingles. It was a magical and awe-inspiring moment. One that happened slowly but also very fast all at the same time.

3:05pm: “HIJA HIJA HIJA HIJA HIJA HIJA!” – the crowd cheered, creating an electrifying atmosphere as Allan Hovda took hold of his gigantic Norwegian flag and proudly held it above his head, as he power walked and jogged up the last steps to the finish line…winning Norseman!!

For me, it was a whirlwind moment of emotion, excitement, adrenalin, gratitude and just such a privilege to experience that finish with him. I can’t imagine how it felt for him.

3:15pm: Kjell Magnus was next to follow in Allan’s footsteps, with the crowd cheering HiJa and clapping him in as he crossed the finish line, claiming second place!

3:16pm: Lars Christian Vold was hot on Magnus’ heels and Lars claimed third place, celebrating his podium finish with his incredible support crew and beautiful family. Lars did extraordinarily well as he was having issues with an old calf injury during the race.

4:15pm: Unfortunately Erik and I couldn’t stay to see Mette cross the finish line, but we caught her astonishing finish on the Live TV! Mette won the female race, smashed the course record by 48 minutes and came 12th place overall. Heini soon followed Mette 6 minutes later claiming second place and they both became the first two females at Norseman to achieve a sub-12 hour race! Amazing!

4:30pm We arrived in Gaustablikk, where the athletes would be staying after they’ve become a Norseman and the destination for those athletes who didn’t make the black tee shirt time cut off at the 32km mark.

Only 160 athletes are allowed through the 32km mark to make it to the top of Gaustatoppen and claim the coveted black tee shirt. The other athletes must run 8 loops of around 100m at Gaustablikk and when they cross the finish line in Gaustablikk, they achieve their hard earned white tee shirt.

5pm: We caught up with the lucky runners who had just scraped the cut off time at the top of Zombie Hill and were on their way to Gaustatoppen:

9pm: Our white tee shirt athletes are still going! After more than 16 1/2 hours of racing it was truly awe-inspiring to see the athletes radiating with positivity, digging deep, giving off energy and having smiles spread across their faces as they continued their race to the finish.

It was the night before the 2018 Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon

Twas the night before the Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon and all through the cabins, not a creature was stirring, not even a triathlete. The wetsuits were hung by the athletes with care, as they dreamt of the black tee shirt, that would soon be theirs. And the ferry stood still on Eidfjord’s cold waters, waiting to take them beyond the shore. Soon they’d be jumping and their heart rates racing….

[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_column_text]

Well, that’s not strictly true…although the town of Eidjford, Norway was quiet and peaceful, our triathletes heart rates were already racing with nervous excitement and anticipation that race day was upon them.

I was one of the lucky ones, my role for race day was sharing our athletes’ Norseman journey on Instagram Stories (@nxtri)and sending out the press release on Sunday. Instead of butterflies whirling around my stomach, I slept soundly. From 2:55am my alarm was set and I suspect like many of our athletes, ready to go off every minute – just in case I slept through the first, second and third…

But let’s go back a few hours… Hundreds of athletes and their support crew are all sitting shoulder to shoulder in the gymnasium. It suddenly goes black. Silence. The heart-pounding music of Norseman starts to build. We are all watching the 2017 Norseman race film. Excitement, expectancy and pre-race nerves fill the gymnasium.

I wasn’t racing and yet this film raised the hairs on the back of my neck. We saw the athletes being showered in cold water as they prepared to plunge 4 meters into the icy fjord waters from the ferry. Intense looks spread across their faces. It was time.

Then epic landscapes emblazoned the gymnasium’s wall, many times it was just an athlete on their bike in the middle of a big mountain plateau or looking marooned in a wasteland only suited for reindeer and rocks. It was just them. A lone triathlete, no one to see them, hear them or cheer them on. Just them and their sheer will to make it to the finish line and claim their black tee shirt.

It then cuts to Lars Christian Vold and Anne Nevin climbing the final steps of Gaustatoppen to their victories, smashing the course records and claiming the world’s most coveted black tee shirt – the one goal all of our athletes share, and yet only 160 will be able to claim the prestigious prize.

Torill Pederson, Norsmena’s Race Director, then shared with us her final words of encouragement and Norseman wisdom before opening the doors and releasing our athletes and supporters. The atmosphere lifted and became more jovial. It was now time for them to head back to their accommodation to get some more food, relax, breathe, think about what’s ahead in a calm and relaxed way and finally sleep, waiting until that alarm goes off and adrenaline kicks in.

I was lucky to grab 10 minutes with three times World Rally Champion Andreas Mikkelsen, who was racing Norseman with his navigator and co-driver Anders Jaeger.

We briefly chatted about what made him decide to enter Norseman, how he had prepared for the race, how it differed to rally driving and how he was feeling with less than 12 hours to go!

While the athletes and their support slept (or tried to sleep), the media crew met to talk through what to expect, how to stay safe and respect the athletes. As questions were being answered and media badges collected, I could see the clock ticking by and my hours of sleep quickly diminishing.

It was just past 11pm when my head hit the pillow and my alarm was set for 2:55am. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this excited to get up so early.

2:55: The alarm went off. I could hear Helen Webster, my roommate and editor of Triathlon 220 stirring. I thought really? Is it time already? Yes, this was it. Time to go and follow and share the athletes’ journey as they raced in the earth’s ultimate triathlon.

3:10: But first, Helen and I did the very British thing and had a cup of tea. Then we braved the night’s air and got the cameras rolling.

It’s that time of year again when hundreds of the earth’s most extreme triathletes will converge on a Norwegian fjord, to race in the world’s toughest one-day endurance challenge on Saturday 4th August 2018.

And I’m SO excited to be blogging about it, driving the press coverage and taking over their Instagram stories!

[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/4Ph-qTK1axw”][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_column_text]

It will be all systems go in Eidfjord, Norway in just a few of weeks for the Isklar Norseman Extreme Triathlon’s 16th race, with 280 of the most daring triathletes swimming 3.8km, cycling 180km, running 42.2km and ascending more than 5235m in Norway’s exquisite landscape.

For the record, that’s a swim in freezing fjord waters, a bike through mountains, and a full marathon culminating in a steep ascent up a mountain for that prestigious black tee shirt – Oh, and by the way, this all starts at 4am by jumping off a car ferry into the icy waters and it’s over in less than 24 hours later

On 4th August records will be made, champions crowned, history re-written, minds blown and stories will be told.

The list of athletes lining up to start the race is impressive. The previous winner Lars Christian Vold is back to dominate the unpredictable course, but he won’t be alone as he’s joined by Red Bull rally driver Andreas Mikkelson and his navigator Anders Jæger, Huub athlete Harry Wiltshire and hundreds more.
